Supply chain visibility combines asset tracking, condition data from shipments, and events from partners’ systems into a single view. The questions it answers are operational: which container holds the delayed components, whether a refrigerated load stayed within range, and when a truck will reach the dock. Without it, each handover is a blind spot and problems surface only when goods arrive damaged or late.
IoT fills the physical gaps with trackers and sensors; the rest is data integration across companies, which is often the harder part. A shipment that reports its own location and temperature is useful only if the receiving party’s systems can consume the data. Cold chain monitoring is a specialized case. Our guide IoT in logistics and supply chain describes the building blocks and how dashboards present them.
