AWS IoT Core is the entry point for devices on Amazon’s cloud. Devices connect over MQTT, HTTPS or WebSocket using X.509 certificates or other credentials, publish to topics, and a rule engine routes messages to storage, functions and analytics services. A device shadow keeps the last known and desired state of each device so applications can read and write it even while the device is asleep.
Choosing it usually means choosing the wider AWS ecosystem. That brings a large catalog of services and a pay-per-message model, but also a dependence on one provider that should be weighed against portability. Compare it with other options in IoT platforms explained.
