A webhook inverts the usual request pattern. Instead of your application repeatedly asking a platform whether a device has reported, the platform sends an HTTP POST to your endpoint the moment it does, carrying the event as a JSON body. Rule engines commonly use webhooks as their action step, and LoRaWAN network servers deliver uplinks to application servers this way.
Webhooks are simple to set up but need care in operation. The receiving endpoint must be reachable from the internet, must verify a signature so forged events are rejected, and must respond quickly, since many senders retry on timeout and some drop events that fail repeatedly. For high volumes a message queue between the webhook receiver and the processing logic absorbs bursts.
